Questions people ask

How many five-letter words are there?
8,532 of them are in ENABLE, the 172,823-word public-domain dictionary this page uses. Only about 3,005 are words people actually use — the rest are technical terms, obscure plurals and words that have not been said out loud in a century.
Are these valid in Scrabble and Words With Friends?
Almost all of them. This page uses ENABLE, which is the list Words With Friends was built from, so if a word is here it is very likely accepted. Scrabble's official tournament lists are owned by Hasbro and Mattel and differ in a few hundred places, so a rare word can go either way.
Why is a word I know missing?
Three usual reasons: it is a proper noun (names are not in the dictionary), it is longer than eight letters and so outside the finder's range, or it is one of the small number of rude words left out on purpose, because this is a general-audience site.
Is this free, and does anything get uploaded?
It is free, there is no sign-up, and nothing is uploaded. The dictionary downloads to your browser the first time you use the finder and everything after that happens on your own device.
