Word Lists
Word lists that put the ordinary words first. Most lists like this hand you every word in the dictionary, which is thousands of things nobody has ever said — these ones separate the words people use from the words that only exist in word games, and every page has a finder for digging out the rest.
Where the words come from
Every list here is built from ENABLE, a 172,823-word public-domain English dictionary compiled by Alan Beale with Mendel Cooper. It is the list Words With Friends was built from, so if a word is accepted in most word games it is in here. Names are not in it, and a small number of rude words are left out on purpose, because this is a general-audience site.
The "ordinary words" count on each card is the part worth explaining. It is the overlap between that dictionary and a frequency list built from about 29 million words of film and television subtitles — so it is a measure of what people actually say, not what a dictionary will allow. There are 23,109 seven-letter words and roughly 4,000 of them turn up in real life.

A list is the wrong tool when you already know your letters. The anagram solver takes them and shows every word they make, longest first, blanks included. And Anagrove is the game all of this was built for — everybody gets the same six letters each day.
Words as pictures
Every page here treats a word as a list of letters. A rebus treats it as a picture instead: the word DOWN drawn upside down, or the word SECOND cut in half. There are thirty of them to solve, drawn on the page, with the answer there when you want it.
